The museum was very educational, thoughtfully laid out, and wonderfully engaging! It was also a delight to converse with the ED, Lisa, whose historical knowledge and passion for the history of Welland, was outstanding! Thank you for a lovely visit 😁

Welland has so much stories past and rich history. There's so much to learn here and the building is comfortable too. The Welland Historical Museum also gives space to community programs that help keep the world a better place. Come visit and take a deepee dive into Welland's importance to the world.

Date of visit: Sat May 3rd A Thoughtful Glimpse Into Local Legacy 🌊 Located right in the heart of downtown Welland, the Welland Historical Museum is a cozy and informative spot that gives you a solid sense of the city's roots and its ever-evolving identity. Situated directly across from the canal and the beautiful park, it’s easy to find and makes a nice addition to a day spent exploring the city’s charming waterfront. The museum itself may not be sprawling, but it packs a lot of heart. Current exhibits cover a mix of local history, including stories from Welland’s diverse communities, the evolution of its industries, and, of course, the historic Welland Canal—a feat of engineering that put this city on the map. The displays do a great job of connecting the past to the present, and if you’re a fan of canals, shipping, or regional history, there's plenty to dig into. The most recent exhibit is a very thought-provoking collection depicting “the Underground Railroad” and the fight for and journey to freedom for slaves of the American south. What stands out is the community vibe—everything feels personal, as if it were carefully put together by people who genuinely care about preserving Welland’s story. Staff were welcoming and happy to chat, and there’s definitely potential here for even more immersive storytelling in the future. If you're in the Niagara Region and curious about the fabric of its smaller cities, the Welland Historical Museum is a worthwhile stop. It's a quieter museum that leaves you with a better appreciation for the people, perseverance, and canal that helped shape this town. Admission is based on donations, and there is a lovely little gift shop where you can purchase a variety of fun and local items. Parking – there is ample free parking on site.

Went here on a weekend for a birthday party and it was absolutely wonderful! The museum itself is small but very interesting. It's well kept after and the lady we dealt with was incredibly knowledgeable and amazing at entertaining children. Birthday Parties: Definitely did not know this was a place you could have a birthday party, but so glad I found out. It was 3 hours long, and they took care of everything except the food (which you were allowed to bring in whatever). They had activities, they had games, and they took a walk through the museum.

We had our son's 7th birthday party at the museum this past May. Lisa did an absolutely wonderful job leading activities and keeping all 15 kids active and involved. My son chose a Pokemon theme and Lisa did a fabulous job of including his favourite ones. It's been 3 months and my children are still raving about how much fun they had with Ms Lisa. I highly recommend reaching out and booking a party here. Thank you Lisa. We appreciate how hard you work and all the care and dedication you put into what you do.
