Silver Cross | Stair Lifts & Mobility Equipment

I purchased a stair lift from this company because it is a Canadian-made product, they are local, and the price was competitive. While the unit functions adequately and is well-built, several design and service issues have been frustrating. Pros: The lift is fairly easy to operate. The build quality seems solid. Cons: 1. Design Flaws and Controls The key under the armrest disables the unit when removed, supposedly as a child safety feature. However, it is easy to accidentally turn the key to the off position without realizing it, which can be frustrating when trying to use the lift as in a seated position you have to lift the armrest up and turn the key on. There are two remote controls that allow operation even when the key is locked helpful for multiple users, but this seems to contradict the child safety feature. The remotes themselves are very finicky and do not always work. A switch labeled Key Off is located on top of the unit, requiring the chair to be turned 90 degrees and reaching over the unit to access it, an awkward and potentially unsafe maneuver. Since no manual was provided, I have no clear understanding of its purpose. 2. Installation Issues The installer did not drill pilot holes into my finished hardwood stairs, leading to several bolts being misaligned. This was sloppy workmanship. 3. After-Sales Support Despite requesting an operation and maintenance manual multiple times, I still have not received one. When I raised my concerns about the key issue with Andrew, he offered no solution. Final Thoughts If I had to do this again, I would probably choose a different company. At the very least, I would visit a showroom to inspect the units in person before making a purchase.

After receiving a few quotes and doing some research for a stair lift for my mother I decided to go with Silver Cross. I dealt with Andrew. He was very professional, knowledgeable and courteous. My grandfather received amazing and fast service by Silver Cross. After we unexpectedly had the hospital release my grandmother early we only had 2 days to put in a stair lift for her at home. My grandfather called Silver Cross and not only did he get someone to come out and give him a quote the same day but they also installed it and stayed till 7pm to ensure it was completed for my grandmothers arrival the next morning.
