Ruffin's Pet Centres - Grimsby

This store sells live exotic animals. Hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs. The animals are kept in small glass tanks, with inadequate (pine and cedar) bedding. Hamsters have no room to burrow, they are exhibiting signs of severe stress (pacing, scratching at their tanks mid-day when they should be sleeping). Rabbits and Guinea’s have no room to roam. Rabbits kept in stressful glass tank, with an open top, making it easy for customers to reach their hands in. Minimal bedding, risking sore hocks for the bunny. The rabbit currently in the store is expressing very dark poop, indicating a poor diet. Enclosures for sale in the store that are way too small, frankly they more closely resemble isolation jail cells than homes. Please do better. Partner with a rescue, do some learning, stop profiting off live animals. I was intending to purchase a few items for my 4 pets today, but put the items back and went to Pet Country Market Grimsby instead, where I was able to buy all the same items without witnessing animal neglect and irresponsible breeding.

I find the staff really friendly and ready to help when needed and I did need a lot of help...I am dealing with 3 senior cats that are very picky as far as food is concerned so I had to try different foods both dry and wet till I found a couple that my dependents would eat... Most places will take food back but made me feel uneasy doing it while here they NEVER MADE ME FEEL AS IF I WAS BEING TOO MUCH even though I had to go through several to find the right ones....They have become my favorite place to shop for my kids and I find that they do have a good variety including some that are not available anywhere else I've been...AND it is one of those that my 3 cats decided they like. I am so glad I walked into that special store...5 stars all the way...Jean

I purchased some fish for the kids. The heater that I purchased was a little loud and they exchanged it for a new one without any fuss. Great customer service. They also helped the kids pick out the cheap feeder gold fish. It was a small thing but made them feel great. Thanks. Highly recommend.
