I walked into Ola Amigos Tacos in Smithville with hope in my heart and hunger in my stomach. I left with neither. From the very first bite, I knew I had made a terrible mistake. The taco—if it can even be called that—felt like it had been assembled by someone who has only heard rumors of what a taco is. The tortilla was limp and lifeless, like it had already given up on existence before it reached my hands. It didn’t cradle the fillings; it surrendered to them. The flavors were somehow loud and absent at the same time. Every bite clashed with the next, like ingredients that had never met before and strongly resented the introduction. I kept chewing, hoping something—anything—would improve, but instead the experience deepened into confusion and regret. This wasn’t food that comforted, surprised, or satisfied. It was food that challenged me. Emotionally. The textures alone deserve their own warning label. Mushy where it shouldn’t be, dry where moisture was desperately needed, and uneven in a way that made every bite feel like a gamble I kept losing. I found myself staring at the taco, wondering how something with so many ingredients could taste so aggressively wrong. By the time I finished (out of stubbornness, not enjoyment), I felt like I had endured a culinary endurance test rather than enjoyed a meal. This wasn’t a quick stop for tacos—it was a dramatic lesson in lowered expectations. To be fair, taste is subjective. Maybe this place has fans. Maybe this was an off day. But in my personal experience, Ola Amigos Tacos in Smithville delivered one of the most disappointing taco encounters I’ve ever had. I wanted bold, comforting street food energy. What I got felt like a breakup letter written in seasoning. I didn’t leave angry. I left changed.

I don’t even know where to begin with Ola Amigoz, because this place managed to mess up literally everything from the moment I walked in. If you’re looking for tacos, flavor, basic listening skills, or even the bare minimum of customer service, do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. A gas station would have been an upgrade. First of all, the ordering experience was painful. I very clearly said I did NOT want my food grilled. I said it calmly. I said it clearly. I even repeated it. And what happened? She grilled it anyway. While I was saying “no grill,” the lady working there just stared at me in complete silence, like I was speaking a different language or like she was buffering. Then, after ignoring me entirely, she goes, “What you want?” as if I hadn’t just said it multiple times. That alone should’ve been my sign to leave. It didn’t stop there. I also asked for cheese. Simple request, right? Apparently not. Once again, completely ignored. At this point, I felt like I was talking to a wall. Not rude in an aggressive way — just completely checked out, uninterested, and unwilling to listen. If listening was a job requirement, it was clearly optional that day. Now let’s talk about the food — because somehow it was even worse than the service. The beef tacos tasted like cat food. Not “kind of bland,” not “needs seasoning,” but straight-up canned cat food energy. Mushy, weirdly salty, and deeply unsettling. I’ve never eaten something and immediately thought, “This should not be consumed by humans,” but here we are. The steak tacos were even more offensive. The steak was drowned in this horrible sauce that tasted like dog food mixed with curry and salsa. I don’t know who approved that combination, but they should be stopped. It didn’t complement the meat — it completely ruined it. The flavor lingered in the worst way possible, like a bad decision you keep regretting. The chicken? Drier than the Sahara Desert. I’m talking bone-dry, no moisture, no flavor, no hope. I had to chew it forever just to get it down, and even then it felt like punishment. I’ve had better chicken from a school cafeteria on its worst day. Then came the quesadilla, which might be the most confusing item of all. A quesadilla is literally defined by cheese, yet somehow this one had almost none. I don’t know how you mess that up, but Ola Amigoz found a way. It fell apart immediately because there were so few ingredients inside. It was basically a sad tortilla pretending to be a meal. Everything about this place screams low effort — from the food quality to the portions to the customer service. It felt rushed, careless, and completely unapologetic. No attempt to fix mistakes, no acknowledgment that they messed up my order, just silence and bad food. Smithville deserves better taco spots than this. I came in hungry and left frustrated, disappointed, and honestly a little mad that I spent money here. This was hands down one of the worst taco experiences I’ve ever had, and that’s saying something. Unless you enjoy being ignored and eating food that tastes like pet meals, I would strongly recommend avoiding Ola Amigoz at all costs.

The female server was more interested in having a conversation with someone through her earbuds than listening to how I wanted my burrito made. Put items on I didn't ask for . Put item on grill after I asked her not too grill it. Asked to take it off the grill, she looked at me blankly after sitting on the grill way too long than said in broken English oh no toasted. Very poor service Food was slightly better

Tried a burrito here for the first time today and it was delicious!! I ordered the spicy chicken burrito with all of the toppings and it was so full of flavour! The only thing I’d say is that the chicken pieces weren’t that hot (temperature) so that’s the only thing that could be improved. I appreciate the way that the staff mixed all of the ingredients together with the sauces in my wrap so that the flavours were combined!!! I’ve never had that at other burrito places. Awesome spot! Will be back!

A Quaint Little Place For A Late Dinner My family and I stopped at this location on a late Saturday evening in Aug 2023. Their burritos were much like the ones from our local region (Bayshore's barBurrito); tasty and a good price. We were served by an enthusiastic staff (even apologizing for one of their restrooms being out of service). If I ever happen to be around the Niagara region I certainly will drop by.
