Please save yourself the trouble and go somewhere more professional. Awful experience. Not professional or helpful at all.

Dr. McLaughlin provides exceptional ophthalmic care marked by clinical expertise, clear communication, and steady professionalism. The surgical experience was remarkably smooth, reflecting his precision and calm confidence. He explains each step with clarity and thoroughness, ensuring that patients feel fully informed throughout the process. The team at the Niagara Institute upholds the same high standard. Their coordination, professionalism, and sincere attentiveness create an environment that is both efficient and welcoming. My experience exceeded expectations, and I would recommend Dr. McLaughlin and his team without hesitation.

Friendly staff and great doctors. There are many staff there to streamline the process leading up to seeing the doctor. Clean facility though busy. The building has a washroom which can be used by patients. At times there is no where to sit. Even sign telling support people are drivers to yield for patients. Difficult to get through by phone. When you do get through, you feel rushed. Even in person reception makes you feel rushed. The paid parking lot is a joke. No WiFi.

I honestly wish I could give a better rating, I heard a lot of great things about this Dr. However, the appointment was for my mother who is 100% wheelchair dependent. I was very clear about this when booking this appointment for her. Even with the follow up call I reminded them that she cannot transfer and is fully isolated to the wheelchair. We were told “ no problem” It is an arduous task to book a wheelchair van for her, get her ready for an outing, take time off work and get her there. Once we arrived, they were very pleasant. The first tech came out and brought her to the first machine. He lowered it and asked her to sit forward, I told him she can’t. He said she needs to for the test and I again said she can’t, she had no trunk control. He asked if she could see stand and I said not in over 30 years. He asked about wedging pillows behind her and I said you’d need a lot and she’d be at risk of falling out of her chair. We were then directed back to the waiting room and asked to go into another room. The chair wouldn’t fit through the door. They asked about taking parts off and I just looked at them. They asked if we had a smaller chair and I said not in my back pocket ( or anywhere for that matter) We tried another room and it was the same problem. The dr came out and said “ all doors are build to code” i said “ yes, that’s standard building code and nothing special for this office” I said you assured us her being in a wheelchair would not be a problem. I asked who can accommodate someone with accessibility needs and she said she didn’t know, we’d need to call around. These appointments are referrals and take time to get and schedule. It costs money and time to get to them due to using specialized transport. This is the second dr to turn her away. Other than going to McMaster for an appointment which would be an extremely expensive trip, it seems no one cares to look after those that have specialized needs.

Two weeks ago, the office called to change our appointment times and I agreed. Upon arrival today (the date they confirmed two weeks ago), my two children were turned away because of a scheduling error. This was after taking the afternoon off from work, borrowing a car, and taking the children out of school early. The receptionist relayed the situation to Dr. Martin and she would not even squeeze one of them in even though it was their error. The only option we were given was to wait 2 hours for a possible appointment. We were early and there was no one in her office and only 2 other patients waiting. This demonstrates no respect for my time or the circumstance. To add insult to injury we still had to pay for parking. This is completely unacceptable. If roles were reversed I would have been charged a fee. This experience was both surprising and disappointing given that our whole family attends this office.
