Very disappointing. A few maps and coloring books lying around. Was hoping for a large floor to ceiling wall map showing lakes, canal, locks, escarpment, preferably in a molded 3-D relief form. The standard map size graphic depiction of the area was all they had, taped to the wall (attached to this review), along with an equally unimpressive graphic (available on line) showing the depths of the lakes. Staff were pleasant, but not particularly well informed.
View on GoogleVery interesting, happened to be there right when a large ship was going through! Very helpful person at the desk with answers for all the questions I was asking!
View on GoogleWe were lucky to see a ship come through the lock. Very cool how quick it is to fill and empty
View on GoogleWatching at the lock 3 Welland Canals Centre with 3 viewing levels to watch the ships, barges, boats rise 42 feet in 12 minutes is fantastic! 8 locks, 326 feet in 30ish miles is impressive! Tons of easy access parking too and ship arrival schedules online to time your visit.
View on GoogleWatching the opening and closing of the bridge was so exciting. I watched the large stream ship going through the Locke. This is my first time viewing this process. When you are in the Welland, St Catherines area, go and see it. You can search online for the times the ships pass through the Locke. Everyone one should see this.
