I use to love shopping at food basics Grimsby because I could get everything at one place. Fresh produce, product variety, and cheaper prices than most other grocery places in Grimsby was great. Since covid Grimsby food basics has gone down hill. Most produce is old and starts to rot within 24hrs. An example... I bought tangerines on Monday by Wednesday 50% were moldy. Some of the dairy products have very close expiry dates. Sometimes, only sometimes, as little as a week away for some things like sour cream, or milk. Shopping on a Monday is not a good idea unless you want no perishable stuff. Alot of perishable items are not available. Their delivery trucks seem to come on a Tuesdays. I've also noticed alot less "cashiers" are working. Last Monday there weren't any lines open. We were forced to use self check out. Having said all this, almost all the staff are friendly, and the store is clean. I sincerely hope that this store goes back to pre-covid quality. I like shopping there, but I'll have to get produce elsewhere for now.
View on Googleloss prevention needs to retrain the self check out cashiers on how to DISCREETLY do BOB, everytime I go here I'm accused of stealing. I generally go here because it's typically a little bit cheaper than Sobeys but I will start paying the extra money and go to Sobeys because this place makes me so uncomfortable.
View on GoogleGood selection of carribean foods/products and prices are reasonable. But there never seem to be any shopping baskets forcing you to use a trolley when sometimes you only want to grab a few items frustrating!
View on GoogleFriendly people including staff. Was super easy to find what I needed. Best was how much space is between the aisles. Clean and neat inside and out.
View on GoogleI just needed to run out and pick up some eggs. I had never been to Food Basics in Grimsby before. I usually go to the large grocery store in town, but since I needed only one item, and I was in the neighbourhood, I went to Food Basics. On my way out, I remembered that I also needed to pick up some wine for dinner at my mom's this weekend. It is so convenient that we can purchase alcohol at the grocery stores. As I was trying to figure out which bottle to purchase, an employee asked me if I was old enough to buy alcohol. This question made my whole week! I am 53 years old and obviously old enough, but the fact that someone cared to stop and check warmed my heart. Thank you, Gabe, for making me feel young again. You lifted my spirits, and I appreciated your kindness! On a more practical note, the store was bright and clean, and the shelves were fully stocked. The prices were better than the prices I have seen at other grocery stores. Because of this visit to Food Basics, I will likely become a regular customer!
