I had a very disappointing experience with Dr. Marquis Okon, OB-Gyn in St. Catharines. From the moment he entered the clinic, his demeanor was unfriendly and made me feel uncomfortable. He looked at me from head to toe with an expression that made me feel small and out of place, as if questioning why I was there. Throughout the appointment, he did not seem interested in listening to my concerns, which left me feeling dismissed and disrespected. A patient’s comfort, dignity, and trust are essential in healthcare, and unfortunately, I did not feel those were valued during my visit.
View on GoogleI'm frankly very surprised to read so many negative reviews for Dr. Okon. Granted, we all have different expectations of new physicians, but for me it was refreshing not to have to wait weeks for an appointment. Not having to wait in the office was a plus. The Receptionist was pleasant and helpful. Dr. Okon first asked me questions about my physical health and my reasons for coming to the office. Basically I just needed a long overdue pelvic exam/pap smear. The Dr. informed me that Pap smears were no longer performed after the age of 70 (who knew) I had an internal pelvic exam (no stirrups or other needed) Afterwards I was scheduled for a follow up ultrasound (which I also wanted). All in all, I'd say that Dr. Okon was thorough and very professional. I think he uses humor to get patients to relax during uncomfortable probing. Personally, I think this Dr. is a very cool guy who can't be all things to sometimes very demanding patients.
View on GoogleI have personally never had an issue with Dr. Okon. He is quick and to the point and always asks me if I have any questions at the end. I get how some people may feel their concerns are not considered. His demeanor may come off as rude or inconsiderate; however I believe he is very caring and compassionate. He is the first OB after four children being conceived on birth control ( the last one being created on the Depo-Provera) who was willing to talk about tubal ligation and have that in my chart and be willing to do that procedure. I have had four different OB, both being males and females, who had either told me I was too young to have one, or that I may want more children later in life. He was the only one who hasn't belittled me by saying, " I didn't take my birth control right." or tell me I have I would recommend him
View on GoogleIt took 4 months to get in to finally see the doctor. I waited two hours passed my appointment time before I was seen in a waiting room full of equally frustrated patients. When Dr. Okon came in, he was very condescending and made me feel as though my problems were minuscule. He didn’t ask me any questions or write anything that I said down. He didn’t offer me any solutions, and I left with absolutely no information, no prescription, no referral, nothing. Don’t waste your time here. If you doctor refers you here, ask to be referred elsewhere, where you might actually be helped.
View on GoogleI had midwives for my pre-care but doctor Okon ended up having to deliver my baby. He was very nice, did a wonderful job. When i went to his office for my appointment after the birth to see how I was healing, there was no wait at all. All the staff were very friendly and doctor Okon was thorough, friendly and made me feel very comfortable. This was a huge change from my experience with a different OB in the st catharines area. There are always going to be bad reviews about any OB, so a good experience deserves lots of recognition.
