Dave McMahon's Dog Training Academy

Well, it’s officially finished. Cyrus and I have completed our 1 year apprenticeship with Dave McMahon. To say we have learned a lot is an understatement. We are still learning every day. That is the nice thing about dog training, there is always something new to learn, observe, experience. Dave will say, no 2 dogs are the same, and sometimes you need to break out new training techniques for different dogs. It was such an amazing experience, and I’m glad we did it. Cyrus and I have built such a strong bond through this, and he has taught me so much. I have learned how to read my dog’s body language, and he actually teaches me a lot about the other dogs around me. We have done it all with Dave’s training, the novice class, behaviour modification lessons, reality recall, the intermediate training, and now the apprenticeship. He has come so far from the dog I brought to Dave’s training school in 2022. We wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for Dave, he is full of knowledge and always willing to teach you something if you want to learn. Thanks for allowing us to train under you to gain the knowledge that we can now spread to others! Also, without the help of Tammy, I don’t know that I would have known what to do with Cyrus when we had first started, she helped me learn how to read his body language and to listen to him, he would tell me how a dog was feeling in any situation. Thanks for all your help Tammy! We appreciate you more than you know! Then there is Sue, she was always there to make sure we knew exactly what we needed to do. She is the one that makes sure what we are demonstrating to the class aligns with Dave’s methods. Thanks buddy for all your help getting everything down pat so we could move on in the apprenticeship and actually start teaching classes! You will learn how to help other people train their dogs, but you will also develop a very strong bond with your own dog!

Dave, and his entire team of staff are absolutely awesome. There is something to be said about working with an organization spearheaded by a few people who have a combined 100+ years training. Be it the O.G crew like Dave himself, Sue, Ann, Tammy or even one of the newer trainers like Char, you’ll feel the difference in energy the moment you step inside the facility. Your dog might be big, it might be small. It is maybe old, or maybe young. It could be deaf, or even blind. You’ll find a beautiful and even deeper appreciation for your pup after spending some time here. If you’re nervous about trying something new, Or don’t know if this is the right place for you… Just give them a call, give it a shot. You’ll be surprised you waited so long. I started my journey over a decade ago with Dave with a dutch shepherd I rescued named Nikita… To this day she serves and protects my (almost) senior mom. Leah is a 1-year old rescue, and she’s being trained to be abe to travel the world with me. I’m forever grateful to Dave and his whole crew. For making me look good, because my dogs are LEGENDS… 😂 😊 ♥️

I would highly recommend Dave McMahon Dog Training Academy!!! I love how the private classes are adjusted to address my dog’s issues. It was very helpful, you can tell Tammy truly cares! Tammy is an outstanding dog trainer with an incredible understanding of difficult and anxious dogs. Our Covid puppy was isolated during the Covid shutdown and difficult to socialize after Covid. Ruby our 5 year old husky, was very challenging, especially with handling, vet visits, and grooming. Thanks to Tammy’s patience, kindness, and expertise, Ruby can now wear a muzzle with no problem and go to the vet and bath and nails with no issues at all. The progress has been amazing and truly life changing for both Ruby and us. We are grateful and highly recommend Tammy to anyone requiring a knowledgeable and compassionate trainer! Dave McMahon’s novice-level course is outstanding. Everything is taught clearly and reinforced in a way that makes real progress possible right from the start. What impressed me most was how dramatically the course improved daily walking and overall routine. The heel work is excellent, our dog now walks beside us without pulling, stops when told to sit, and only goes to sniff or take care of business when given the cue. This alone has transformed everyday walks into something calm, controlled, and enjoyable. Highly recommend this course to anyone looking for practical, effective dog training with real-world results.
