Well bought the 4 Oz frozen burgers tried them tonite not impressed greasy when cooking them and dry as can be very chewy. I did ask a worker about the burgers and she said that they don't get bad reviews most people love them well I guess they don't know what a good burger is. I buy the wings always and they are great but the burgers are not up to any standard.
View on GoogleGreat store. Consistently good products. We’ve been coming here for years but never tried their baked potatoes. They were probably the best store-bought baked potatoes I’ve ever had but with one small criticism: way too much pepper. Tone it down. Eliminate it - in fact. Anyway, great go to for meats and produce. Their mild Italian sausage is perfect. Thanks.
View on Google10/10 market, their meat is always fresh and local which is important. The staff are friendly and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. Their deli is great too. As a new local to Thorold, this market is our go-to for everything that they offer. The staff behind the counter work tirelessly and very efficiently every time we shop there. True hard working locals. They also have all your basic grocery needs which is really handy! My family will be supporting this establishment for many years to come!
View on GoogleTo the owners, I wanted to express how disappointed I am with my most recent experience. I have been a customer for over 15 years, and have always special ordered Ontario Lamb, either shanks throughout the year, and every other year, a large piece of Lamb shoulder for the holidays. I called in to order two weeks prior to ensure that I would have the lamb for our early Christmas get together, and although I can’t be too sure if I said 2 lbs, or 2 kg, to which, I take responsibility, if I did say 2 lbs. The man I spoke to, said they needed to find out if they could get it, came back on the line to advise it would be $14.99 p/lb, but did not question my request. When I arrived to pick up my order, the order, that typically fills one of their branded cardboard boxes, was handed a small wrapped package, to which I was told that I ordered 2 lbs. The very nice young man assisting, said he would see what they could do. He was trying very hard to find a solution, however, the butcher was now on lunch, so he advised he would get the manager to assist. I am not sure who was more RUDE, the “manager” that was supposed to be trying to assist or the other guy (wearing a toque), working near the station cutting up the meat, chirping/chiming in, “she ordered it wrong”. The manger, rushed by me, brushed me off, and wouldn't so much as spend a second to look at the picture I was trying to show him and went to the freezer. Again, I tried to show him the picture of what it was I was making, which was EXACTLY the same picture from the Jamie Oliver recipe that I had previously shown to the tall, older, butcher in the years past, who did take the time to look at the photo and cut me a piece exactly as needed. This manager, a thin, dark hair with a mustache, was beyond RUDE, took a one second glance, without the decency of looking at what I was trying to show him & said ” I don't know what I am looking at, it's cooked, I don’t know”. He continued, "this is lamb shoulder" and proceeded without another word to cut the huge chunk of meat, which looked more like the shoulder/upper rib cage and basically barked "how much do I need". My husband, was none too pleased, and noticed that it was NOT what we were after, said we’ll take the whole thing. $101 later !! I had a good mind to say, nothing and walk out, except I had company coming the next day. You can see by my recipe photo below, which part I was after, vs, the RIB part as per the other portion I got If he would have looked, he would have known exactly what cut I was after. I prepared it, using the other recipe (see RIB looking photo) . It was certainly was not as tasty or plentiful, given there were more bones, it was more like having RIBS. While the guests that I was entertaining mentioned how it looked different than last time . When I recounted what happened, they were not impressed either. This is what happens when you have poor customer service. I get that it was Saturday and very busy, however, I have never experienced such disrespect. Sorry, you have lost me as a customer. I will no longer spend my money at Big Red. There are a number of other butchers that will gladly take my money and be polite about it too !! Note, these are ALL pictures of "Lamb Shoulder", however, you can clearly see the difference in the two cooked photos, the difference. The 3rd photo was the piece I was looking for & have always gotten in the past.
View on GoogleWe really love this store! It's our go to for all of our meats and most sandwich meats. Sales are always great too! Bacon is insane! The only thing I won't buy is the prosciutto, I don't like that they cut off the "fat" or white cap that makes it pretty and they don't layer the slices with the wax paper, so it all sticks together. That would be the only complaint. Everything else is awesome!
