Abby Creek Kennel

We’ve taken our dog to Abby Creek for day camp, and to their kennel for overnight stays. He’s always excited when we arrive, and comes home nice and tired from all of the fun he has there. We’ve also had him groomed by Katie a couple times, and have been SO happy with how much hair she gets off of him. He looks and smells great when she’s done with him. Highly recommend Mike and Katie!

We absolutely love this place!!! Mike at Abby Creek Kennel is fantastic at his job. The property is gorgeous and we’ve never had an issue after picking up our dog. Have used this kennel for years and would never consider sending our dog anywhere else.

We’ve been bringing our dog, Rosie (a strong-willed Bouvier des Flandres), to stay at Abby Creek for three years now. Mike and Marsha were the difference between us being able to go on a vacation or not because Rosie is reactive. Not many kennels will consider taking a dog who is as reactive as Rosie is but my first call with Marsha was reassuring and promising. We went that weekend for a tour of the kennel and to meet Mike, and everything looked really good - clean, spacious, in good upkeep, and the dogs there all seemed happy! He asked for Rosie’s vaccine records and we’ve sent them to him each time they’ve been updated over the years. Mike and Marsha are experienced dog handlers and trainers, and this was evident when we brought Rosie for her first stay. We were so nervous about her behaviour, and his reaction to her, but upon our first pick-up, Rosie ran out to see me, and immediately ran back to Mike and gave him a lick on the hand. We jokingly call Mike’s kennel “Mike’s Hikes” because of the sprawling 88 acres Mike and Marsha live on, and that Mike will take your dog out on a hike/walk in such a wonderful, natural environment that’s so stimulating for them. Over the years, when we say “you wanna go to Mike’s Hikes??”, Rosie goes bananas and runs around excitedly. As we drive closer to the kennel, she also gets more vocal, and can’t wait to get out of the car to see Mike. 😂 Rosie is a handful and yet I’ve seen Mike’s kind and caring treatment of her. We know that if Rosie was unhappy or didn’t like it there, we would know from her behaviour because she doesn’t really like anyone other than us. Mike’s laid back nature may come across as unorganized but he is not ever dismissive or rude, and regularly honours my being an annoying dog mom who will message just to check in! He’s accommodating, flexible, and the prices are more than reasonable! I’d even say he’s incredible honest because on one occasion, I haphazardly overpaid by $1000 and he told me immediately and returned the money to me! If I had one complaint, it’s that Rosie leaves a bit smelly, but we know that Rosie loves rolling around in anything dead or smelly and have no doubt that with other dogs and being out in nature, she is in heaven with those smells! We have a ritual to take her for a bath the morning we pick her up, and she can pick out a treat in the pet store! I believe Mike does grooming, too, though, so if this ever doesn’t fit into our timeline, we would ask him to do that before she leaves. We drive over an hour (usually in the opposite direction of our destination) to bring Rosie to Mike’s and are most appreciative of his care of our beloved dog! We would recommend Mike and Abby Creek Kennels to anyone who has a dog and wants to feel secure in the place they board them!

Took my dog Gumby to Abby Creek Kennel for a groom and had such a great experience. They are absolutely lovely! So kind, inviting, and made Gumby feel right at home. He’s a fluffy mix of Husky, Border Collie, Aussie, Shepherd, and a few other breeds, so grooming him isn’t always simple, but they absolutely nailed it. The pricing is very reasonable, and he was so comfortable there. He came out looking spick and span, and so happy! Couldn’t ask for better.

Mike is fantastic. Our Goldendoodle loves her times at Abby Creek. Well worth the extra $$ for the daily walk around the amazing rural property and the cookie/PB Kong treat. Whether for a day away or a two week vacation, your dog will be safe and content. Mike is pretty easygoing. Don’t be put off by the lack of paperwork or the occasionally slow response times. This isn’t a big operation—it’s Mike giving his time and attention to your pet. I really appreciate his flexibility around drop off and pick up times. Prices are very reasonable and we have peace of mind leaving our dog there.
